Oh Africa!
The second largest continent in the world, with a total area of 30,221,532 km2, Africa is undoubtedly one of the largest and most enigmatic places on Earth; with so many cultures and such a diverse variety of people it’s not surprising that Africa is responsible for so many trends – from statement Moroccan furniture, the calm colour palette of neutrals thanks to Safari and of course, the wild and vibrant essence of Tribal – there really is something for everyone!
A neutral colour palette in your interior is great to work with – why not create a bold statement to really highlight the brightness of your colour scheme? My personal favourite is this shot of an African sunset – printed on to an artist’s grade matt canvas; the deep oranges really highlight a neutral background and creates a fabulous talking point.
Alternatively, your interior design style may err on the wild side a little more and the Tribal trend maybe more appropriate for you and your interior – if this is the case, why not print up some zebra stripes on to Phototex – a specialist type of wall paper that can be removed and re-stuck up to 200 times – leaving no residue on the walls! Perfect for those that like being able to update and refresh their interior with minimal fuss!
Or, if you don’t want to make such a bold statement, why not try our Moroccan twist? ImageShed can source a beautiful piece of Moroccan style fabric tailored to your taste – this material then placed between two sheets of Acrylic makes for a truly unique piece of art with a real antiquarian feel to the material – sit above your favourite Moroccan lamp to really set off the Moroccan vibe!
The African trend is perhaps one of the most exciting to come to Interior Design – truly diverse and easily incorporated in to any interior – whether it’s a hint of animal print here, a splash of colour there – it’s all about mixing, matching and throwing in bold colours unexpectedly!

Here It Is In Black & White:
According to the Tate Modern Glossary, monochrome dates back to as early as the late 1800’s. Vogue dubbed it ‘magical’ and ELLE magazine told us that; Monochrome is a trend that ‘pays homage to the 60’s mod look whilst forever seeming fresh’. Somewhat unusual, I’m sure you’d agree, for a trend to stay so in style throughout the ages; so what is it about monochrome that’s so stylish and how can we incorporate the sleek and stylish trend into our interiors?
The latest in ‘minimalistic chic’, monochrome is a hard colour scheme to tame in any interior; too little seems slightly insignificant for a trend that’s intended as a bold statement and too much can make a confined space over-bearing – not to mention detract from other features within your interior.
If your colour scheme features a lot of black and white already, then there are several simple solutions to draw attention away from the heavy impact of this emphatic colour scheme yet still maintain the trend throughout your space. Art is a simple yet effective way to incorporate the latest trends into your interior, without having to go in for that costly overhaul.
A simple black and white canvas print makes for a striking piece that can blend into the background or alternatively create a focal point and draw attention to a certain feature within the room. Our design team can take it one step further for you, and create pictures in black and white whilst still keeping elements of colour – making for a striking piece that incorporates other elements of your colour scheme whilst still keeping that on-trend black and white statement.
Alternatively, if monochrome already plays a prominent role in your interior, but you wish to draw focus to other features, then a bold and colourful acrylic placed in line with the feature you wish to draw attention to, creates both a centre point which allows for new colour scheme to be introduced, without overpowering the black and white colour scheme already in place.
The bold contrast of black and white can be a bit too much for some, but a hint of grey makes for a sleek addition to your interior that is in keeping with the tone of this trend. An ideal piece for this would be one of ImageShed’s aluminium pieces in a Butler finish – with imagery such as city landscapes, sleek greys create a high definition print that is sure to fit perfectly within any interior, without detracting from your favourite features.
So here it is in black and white; whatever the trend, ImageShed has the perfect piece to fit in with you; to see how we can take the boredom out of black and white, call us on (01491) 845 975…
Seasonal Art
When opening a restaurant, I imagine the first thing to ask yourself is ‘‘how will I make this venture successful’’. Anyone who’s watched Gordon Ramsay’s ‘The F Word’ or even ‘Come Dine With Me’ will understand that good food and a strict schedule are key – but what about when the food isn’t on the table? How many Come Dine With Me contestants lose out on points because what they have in culinary skill, they lack in the ability to create the perfect atmosphere? In reality, restaurants are so much more than just good food – you can have good food anywhere, but a good dining experience is something completely different, so, how do you achieve that ambience for your customers?
Atmosphere. As I write this article from the desk in my office, I have a view of the New York skyline that most people would probably give up their job for; I can see the Empire State building, the MetLife building, as well as a sea of insurmountable skyscrapers; I watch it in all its steely grey glory as clouds swirl ominously over the city and the entire scene makes me grateful for the warm radiator by my feet and the warm cup of coffee between my hands.
Throughout the chilly winter months, I look out over my hometown; covered in a magnificent white blanket that covers every surface it can just about reach, I see ice skaters idly cutting figures of eight on the river Thames and children jovially throwing snow balls at one and another, it all makes me look forward to a glass of mulled wine at the end of a long, cold day.
And in the summer, I’m lucky enough to witness a Caribbean sunset every day; an intense Orange sky contrasted against a vast sea so dark you’d be forgiven for thinking that it was a deep shade of navy blue. Just looking at the sun, stooped low in the sky and reflecting off the sea instantly relaxes me and drowns out the hum drum of every day life… It makes popping to my favourite café for an ice-cream with friends all the more enjoyable.
Imagine being able to create a multitude of emotions amongst your diners; from feeling like they’re on that once-in-a-lifetime trip around the world to creating the impression it’s freezing outside, enticing them to stay for one last hot toddy…
